This site names it.
I made this for myself. Some people know what to do with a kid. They pick up a deck of cards or walk to the pond and the afternoon organizes itself. I don’t. I stand there. My wife reminds me, and I need all the reminding I can get.
So every page here does one job: it says what a thing actually teaches, and then it gets the first attempt right. You don’t hand a kid a fishing rod for the fish. You hand it over because waiting with nothing to look at is a skill almost no child has now, and a bank teaches it in a way nothing else does.
The lesson is the headline. The activity is only how you get there. Ages are the bands each page actually covers, and the cost is what it takes to start, not to do it well.
The first pages are being read before they go up. Until then, why I made this says what the site is for and what each page will do.
No listicles
Nobody believes “10 benefits of chess for kids.” One lesson per activity, named precisely, or it doesn’t go on the page.
Not a directory
Where to sled, which chess club, what fishing license you need: you can find that yourself. What a thing teaches, and how to start it, is harder to find, so that is what is here.
Written for the first attempt
Every page assumes you have never done this with a kid before, and that you get one shot before they lose interest. It says what to say, by age, and where it usually goes wrong.
